Why? Is two too small a number? ;)

   > He said he was happy it turned out that way, not using tracks. And the

I think he meant that they can actually play Live, without NON-live
   recordings.

   > Hours went by. I worked on some piano backing tracks. I downloaded some

I've got to do my continuing homework today too and work on the new band's
setlist - rehearsed with them last night - Awesome!
The hard work really pays off...but then I've Always Known that....but the
   Lazy don't care...their loss!

   > Then something hit me. My wedding buddy, why so proud that they can
actually play their instruments ? Of course they can. Who doubts that
   > ?

Perhaps those who somehow don't think playing Live is quite enough and
suggest adding recordings to Pollute the mix.

   > Hummm ... this is what Ouise is all about, sorta, some belief that using
   > tracks is fake or cheating or something. Wedding guy sees them as
   > something evil too. It's like, if you can really play you don't need
   > them. Conversly, then if you use them you can't play ?

I don't think it's about the converse part at all, but rather the idea that
if you can play Live, then Keep it Live...Entirely!

   > Is that " concert " thinking ? Because I could see at a concert you'd
   > want to hear the keyboard guy really play. We don't do concerts, we play
   > dances. At dances, they don't care about the purity of things. We can
   > play totally live, sound just like, you know, a slightly better singing
   > garage band. Or we can play over rhythm tracks, sound like a pro band,
   > and still sing better than most of the locals. Or, if we wanted even more
   > jobs and more money and bigger crowds, we leave the instruments at home
   > and just sing to actual karaoke tracks. Like the big money church groups
   > do :-)

   That's SICK!!!

That's where the Personal Integrity factor comes in - just because 'they'
don't care shouldn't mean that you don't *have* to care also!

   > As it is, we are more like, oh, maybe Lady Ga Ga. She made the records.
   > We made our backings. She plays and uses them with some live stuff mixed
   > in, maybe, sometimes. We play live and generally, but don't always, mix
   > in some backings.

   Where's the Fun in that?
Love Vibes don't come from machines!

   > People who like her don't care. They came to see the freak show.

There will always be freaks for freak shows...but there Must be Honest Music
   at Music shows!!!

   > People ( musicians ) who are envious of our gigs are the only ones who do
   > care. They want our gigs.

I'd NEVER want any part of playing any show where I'd be expected to use
   Fakery!

   > It's all the same.

I'm not the least bit interested in being in a dance band - Music deserves
   much more than such triviality!

   > If I were doing a concert, I wouldn't want to hold an instrument and
   > pretend to play while the backings made the sound. That would feel cheap
   > and fake to me. And, so, I guess I don't ever have to worry about being
   > in Ga Ga' stage band :-)

   Jim

You're starting to sound like me ;)
