The interest is in how some preach how safe flying is.              It is, *relative* to driving with Idiots for instance.              > Or just pretend that there isn't any danger.              Good pilots are always training to successfully meet any challenges, and       dangers they might encounter, because denial of potential danger is in       itself dangerous....whether it involves flying, or smoking cigarettes....or       ANYthing else.              > Rationalizations like saying problems are rare, and if they happen, it'll       > be to someone else, not me.              The first part is absolutely true, and the second part is mostly true, but       only the Terminally LAZY and STUPID would use that as a Lame Excuse for not       being properly prepared...just in case!              > So, it's your life. Calculate the risk, and decide if it's worth it.              Absolutely! And being able to do that, rather than some Dictator       politician(s) is evidence of FREEDOM...which Always Requires       Responsibility!!!              When I was 14 and flew out of an airport where skydivers were jumping over       it, I instinctively at first thought 'NO WAY'! But I *really* wanted to fly       anyway ;) Still I carefully considered the very Real and Unnecessary Risks       I'd be taking if I did. My instructor didn't seem to be too upset, at least       not as much as I was - besides, he'd be getting paid...but upon deciding to       fly anyway, despite the danger, I then very seriously considered what kind       of situations might present themselves and what I'd do about it...at the end       of which, I'd decided that I'd be able to handle it - and sure enough, my       decision was put to the test, and I passed, thank God.              > Same thing with my using computer stuff live.              For sure...I don't think I could be that brave about it myself ;)              > Sure, there's a tiny chance it will fail, but the advantages far out weigh       > those risks for my purposes.              I guess having built them, and witnessing others' problems with them in       addition to my own, I just don't have all that much confidence in computers,       both hardware, and particularly Crappy software, like the operating system.              > The huge drop in weight as compared to equivalent old school hardware is       > easily worth the slight risk of the computer failing.              Jim              I prefer easier carrying, but I'm also used to the 'old school' equipment       too, and the reliability I've personally experienced.              Ouisie              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
