He has songs on       > the radio. Songs on the charts. Is making .... lemme say this as gently as       > I can .... exactly $0.00 from his efforts. ( really, he might be getting       > some tiny amount from Youtube .... maybe pennies )              Got to follow that up with a concert tour.              > I like making the tracks we use. It might just be that, that enjoyment,       > is why I do what I do. It's not so much the playing live I enjoy, as the       > time I spend making the tracks.              Of course that would be an entirely different situation, and I was merely       assuming that it was about the Vibe that can only come from totally Live       Music.              > It's like I'm making records that won't ever be released. Same process.              Only if someone records the show.              > Oh, we use the tracks out as backings, but we don't need to. We could, and       > sometimes do, play " for real " with no backings. Eh, I'm not impressed. I       > did that when I was a teenager. It's not as big a deal as some make it.              Except to give the Live performance a *Living* Vibe ;)              > People should do what they want. If playing live is your thing, do that. I       > like the tracks we make, and I'm happy playing along with them. My life,       > my choice.              If that's what you're genuinely into.              But nowadays, taking the Cheap, 'easy', LAZY way out is all the rage and I       was thinking in those terms.              > was talking to band girl just a bit ago ( it's 11:42 pm as I type this ).       > her and I are both of the thought that we're past caring what other people       > want us to do.              I've never gotten past that...because I've never had to...because I couldn't       care less what people want me to do...particularly since the vast majority       don't even Think in the first place ;)              > Did I mention another of my musician friends died over the weekend ?       > Band girl worked with him a lot more than I did. He was in a band she       > sings with once a month. life is short, can end anytime. Mike didn't see       > his heart attack coming. Had company coming over to the house, they found       > him dead. So, apparently no big warning. Just dead.              That's why I want The Difference to actually make THE DIFFERENCE, and leave       some Awesome creative, innovative Fresh Music in the process.              I don't dig death! I'm not into it and I don't believe that I was created to       die...a couple of Devils by the name of Adam and Eve are Totally to Blame       for that.              > I watched the rocker guy hologram video. Thought they should have made him       > taller. Also there is a weirdness about how the stage spots look. No       > spotlights onto " him ". That's weird, he's lit up, but no there are no       > lights shining on him. Technical issue, they will need to find a way to       > hid that effect. Or, better yet, get past trying to mimic a live       > performance, and do something new and fun with this technology. It's       > creepy using it to bring dead guys back onstage.              You can be sure they're constantly refining the process...but the Problem is       that it's NOT Real, merely an Illusion.              > I feel the same about our tracks. We have this amazing technology, and       > some would use it to create as near to exact copies of cover songs as they       > can. I'm moving away from that. I don't care if our " covers " sound       > exactly like the originals. To me it's more like how I interpret the       > song.              The very essence of Psychedelic is to manifest *yourself* in what you do,       what "Do *Your Own* Thing is Really all about.              > Better yet, we should just write our own songs. We actually do a few       > originals.              Go for more than a few ;)              > Ah, but my " job " is to play covers and make people happy,              Imagine a restaurant cook saying that his job is to serve up the same, Old,       Stale food and make people happy and not to prepare something Fresh that       they've never experienced before!              IT'S NO DIFFERENT WITH MUSIC!!!              > or get them to dance. It's not to show up and play songs I wrote that they       > don't know. If I want to do that, I need to get myself famous, then they       > would like to hear my songs. I could make videos and put them all over the       > net. That works to make you famous, sometimes. Then people would pay to       > see me.              Continuing with the restaurant scenario:              The cook, personally sick and tired of serving Stale food, having to       constantly see it, smell it, and work with it while preparing it over and       over ad infinitum ad nauseam, decides to whip up something Fresh himself and       offers it to a customer, who first picks around it noticing that it's not       like the same Old Stale Crap that he's *used* i.e. Programmed to be eating,       who then finally 'dares' to take a tiny taste.              The cook immediately sees that he's more than surprised, but amazed, and       Delighted, as he digs in and soon cleans his plate, only to order seconds,       then thirds.       Clearly the customer is overjoyed, having experienced phenomenon of Fresh,       quite possibly for the first time in his life, and Totally Loving it, even       raving about it for all to hear.              Soon, other customers respond to the commotion and order the same Fresh       recipe, and respond similarly to the first customer.              The next day at the restaurant no longer sees the the same old 'regulars'       there for the same Old Stale and Boring, but this time the place is       packed, standing room only, to the walls, because the previous customers       couldn't stop raving about their Awesome experiences and now the previously       floundering restaurant is off to stardom!!!              And once again:              IT'S NO DIFFERENT WITH MUSIC!!!              > I'd of course have to travel to turn that fame into money. No matter how       > YouTube famous I get, there's only so many gigs I could play here locally       > before the thrill would wear off. I know this stuff because I've been       > down this road before, as have many of my friends.              You should Never wear out an area by playing too many shows there,       particularly since so many others from so many other areas, will be       anxiously and eagerly waiting to see your shows there!              > I'm old. Will you still love me when I'm 64 ? I'm not gonna load up in a       > van and tour. I have a nice house, a lovely wife, and family, and a dog,       > and birds I feed. I'm not touring.              I'll be 64 in a little over 2 years, but I'm NOT old, because I simply       Refuse to be!       And I don't mind touring by van for a little while, but the plan is for a       fully equipped and appointed tour bus ;)              > Trying to get band girl to do that gets the same response. She also has a       > house and a husband, and they own a fair sized business. She's not going       > any farther than an hour or so's drive.                     [continued in next message]              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
