It is the reason I'm still playing music as all       > my old band buddies die. When they are gone, am I supposed to just stop ?              There are many bands, just take a look at some on wikipedia, whose       practically entire original membership has been rotated, but at least they       didn't expect Machines to replace persons!!!              > Kinda morbid, but you know, something I'm finding myself doing now ......       > Late at night, I'll sit down and decide to make some tracks of some old       > song I use to play.              Living Real Persons canNOT Ever be replaced with machines...and trying to do       so is the truly Morbid part!!!              > I'll think about some dead friend who was in the band back then, and then       > do my best to create a part for his instrument that matches how he played.              Now That's Morbid!!!              I'm sure if that person could communicate with you from where he currently       is, he'd tell you that LIFE GOES ON where you are and that he's had his run       and that it's time to to fill his currently empty space with another Living       player to pick things up where he left off!!!              > My friends my be gone from here, but my memory lets me bring them back       > thru this process.              Only if he was a Machine! ;)              You'll Never bring him back, but you can bring back the *kind* of influence       he had in the band by filling the space he left with the right Person!              > It doesn't have to be a computer. I could do the same thing with an old       > analog recorder. Record a song in the style we use to play it. Artists do       > that now and then, tribute things.              How about instead WRITE a Brand New, FRESH song in that style?              That's what I'm doing.              Besides, if you Truly Love country enough to see it Live on, you'll HAVE to       do it because it's your Duty to the Art form, to keep it FRESH and ALIVE!!!              It took me over 30 Years to learn that - something I'm not very proud of, at       all!!!              > I'll make a bass line like my brother might have played. Or a drum part       > like I've heard Rick do. Or a little steel riff that sounds like Mike.              If you're Truly into being yourself, here's what'll probably happen, you'll       start out doing that - trying to write something in someone else's style,       but before you know it, it'll be in *your* style...and will most likely be       Totally Awesome!              On the second album, Ignite The Sky, I thought I'd write a tune as a kind of       tribute to the late great Doors keyboard player, Ray Manzarek, and the       result was "Go For It". Then I thought I'd write another tune as a kind of       tribute to the late great Deep Purple keyboard player, Jon Lord, and the       result was "Roll Deep Six" - both of those tunes however, sound more like       Ouisie's style than anyone else's...and that's really how it's Supposed to       be ;)              Besides, I already wrote a tune on the first album entitled "Be Who You       Are"!              > Then I'll use these track out on my solo or duo gigs. No one in the       > audience will even notice, but a small tear of remeberence will be in the       > corner of my eye.              Just so long as the Music is FRESH!!!              > Kinda like one is now. I much have gotten a piece of dirt or something       > in it ... . . . .              JIm              Even better is to have a tribute band - that's what I always say I've got,       and the tribute is to ORIGINALITY!!!              Ouisie              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
