THE PRINCIPLE OF CORRESPONDENCE       >        > "This Principle embodies the truth that there is always a Correspondence       between the laws and phenomena of the various planes of Being and Life."                     There is an interesting similarity between the concept of the soul that can be       found in mystical/esoteric literature and quantum field theory. In mysticism       there is the idea of a universal soul or an all-encompassing "sea of spirit"       that can be        identified with God, from which the individual souls emerge, like waves or       ripples in the sea. In quantum field theory, matter is a vibrating energy       field that is spread out in all space and particles are localized energy       excitations of this field.              The activity of the souls may or may not include incarnation in a       physical/material form. When they are in a discarnate state they are said to       exist only in the spiritual world, while in an incarnate state they are said       to exist in the physical world (       but simultaneously also in the spiritual world because they still remain       offshoots of the "sea of spirit" in the spiritual world, although they may not       be conscious of it).              This gives rise to the question about the nature of the spiritual world and       its relation to the physical world. Due to the above mentioned similarity       between spirit and matter it seems that spirit might be a new type (or types)       of energy field and        related particle, in principle describable by quantum field theory (or an       expanded version thereof). Spirit is often described as more interconnected       and fluid than matter, which may indicate that its field aspect is less       susceptible to collapse (has        more stable acausal/quantum-mechanical connections) or it has less friction.       But why has spirit not been detected by physicists yet? If it is true that it       interacts with our physical bodies then there is interaction between spirit       and matter and so        spirit should in principle be detectable by physical instruments. If there is       such interaction it seems to be well hidden or limited... (spiritual       literature mentions a kind of "silver cord" between spirit and human physical       body)              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
