|    Making Live365 *Waaaay* Less Annoying    |
|    21 Jun 04 20:33:22    |
From: ufrna@nygebx.pbz              Folks,              A few people hereabouts have Live365 streams up and running (for instance,       *me*).              Yesterday, while setting up a new computer to listen to the stream, I       realized just how much of a massive pain Live365's popups can be.       Obviously, they're trying to drive the more committed listeners to sign up       for the VIP service, where they remove ALL the ads (even the web-based       ones.) And while it's nice to think there's money in that (in fact, there's       money in it for me, personally) I suspect it's pissing off more people than       it attracts.              You can reduce the annoyance a lot, though, by using your MP3 player to       listen. Here's how:              - Firstly, sign up for a free account - you choose a username and a       password. You need to use an e-mail address you can respond from, though,       or you won't get the confirmation e-mail. It can be a spam catcher address,       of course.              - Go to your e-mail and click the link on the confirmation e-mail.              - Go to the "My Live365" tab.              - Choose the "Listen Settings" tab.              - Choose "MP3 Player".              Now, when you want to go to a stream on Live365, it'll play in your MP3       player - and you can close all the Live365 windows.              Of course, you then won't be able to see the currently playing songs. Savvy       web broadcasters like myself, however, display the currently playing songs       on their own web page - and I don't do pop-ups. My page is:              http://www.altrok.com/streams.shtml              So once you go through all that signup trouble, just go to my streaming       page to see what's playing, and use the links there to launch the stream.              By the way, if you do sign up for the VIP service, remember to mention       whose stream you did it for, because that stream's owner gets a kickback.              Spam? Perhaps...but informative spam. Besides, you might actually like my       stream. Go to http://www.altrok.com/streams.shtml for the direct links       (and the currently-playing song display.)              -Sean Carolan        Editor, Altrok.com & Altrok Radio              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
