Here are three reviews of Robin Black's new Instant Classic album from
Winnipeg, MB newspapers for ALL THE WORLD to read!!! Winnipeg being
basically Robin's home town, of course. (Well, actually, Snow Lake, MB and
Pinawa, MB could qualify, too, but I digress.....) Why? Because, as Robin
says, Winnipeg is "better than you!!!" These reviews will help get the word
out and make Robin the star he both is and deserves to be. Here goes:

By Darryl Sterdan, The Winnipeg Sun, February 18, 2005:

STYLE: Glam-slam, thank you ma'am. SOUNDS LIKE: A molotov cocktail of
whiskey, Spanish fly, snot, leather pants, Marlboros, leopard skin, feather
boas and neon eyeshadow - pumped through a distortion pedal and fed to a
Marshall stack. POINTED COMMENTS: Black has come a long way since his days
fronting Ballroom Zombies. Now based in Toronto with his new band of
Intergalactic Rock Stars, the former local hairdresser teams up with
legendary rock producer Bob Ezrin and Canadian rock mainstay GGGarth
Richardson for his second album. Not surprisingly, with that kind of talent
behind the board, Instant Classic is a slick-sounding set of punky power-pop
ditties and glittering glam-rock anthems. It isn't consistently strong
enough to earn its' title, mind you, but tracks like the chugging opener Why
Don't You Love Me? and the power ballad Seventeen are pretty close to
instantly addictive. STANDOUT: Black's over-the-top, crotch-pumping cover of
Sweet's campy classic Hellraiser is a wild party all by itself - in fact, it
might be a little too good for his own good, since it only makes his own
material seem blander by comparison. 3 out of 5 stars.

By Bartley Kives, The Winnipeg Free Press, February 19, 2005:

Making up for a lack of natural talent with Napoleonic ambition, former
Winnipegger Robin Black convinced Bob Ezrin, last year's inductee into the
Canadian Music Hall Of Fame, to co-produce his latest collection of glammy
guitar-rock singles. Along with Vancouver producer GGGarth Richardson, Ezrin
coaxed the best possible vocal performance from the Snow Lake native and
kicked enough Intergalactic Rock Star butt to raise the overall quality of
the songs. In places, Black still sounds like a Rocky Horror-era Tim Curry
vamping along to Faster Pussycat. But big-league production and a more
pop-oriented approach work well for the ex-Ballroom Zombie, who's toned down
his once-infamous swagger in favor of a more ironic view of his role in the
   Canadian music scene.

By John Kendle, Uptown Magazine, week of March 10-16, 2005:

Here it is. A Bob Ezrin/GGGarth Richardson-produced Robin Black album. And
it's very, very, good. These ace producers have gotten the best from Black's
voice and he and the IRS have gotten the best from themselves - so much so
that the first seven tracks of this disc will simply scorch your glam-loving
earlobes. It's all here, baby - killer choruses, bitchy squeals and
gimme-your-money-honey lyrics. Just as it should be.

And that's not all. In the coming weeks, Robin Black feature articles from
Winnipeg papers. ROBIN BLACK FUCKING RULES! Buy Instant Classic immediately.
