I thought last week's show was so bad that I didn't even feel like
commenting on it. I hated pretty much every performance and just wanted to
forget about it. Jill redeemed herself a bit with a good performance of
"Bring Me to Life" the next night, but I wanted better this week. For the
   most part I got it.

As an aside, am I the only getting seriously skeeved out by Tommy Lee? The
constant allusions to wanting to bang the women is starting to come off less
like a "I'm a naughty rock star" and more like a "I'm a perverted old
bastard that's going to rape you in your sleep". They need to tell him to
tone that shit down or it's going to reach the point where one of the
deserving women (especially Dilana) is going to lose the competition because
Gilby and Newsted don't want a lawsuit on their hands after she gets tired
of Tommy Lee harassing her during their tour.

   Anyway, on to my thoughts:

   1. Patrice Pike
   "Helter Skelter" by the Beatles

I like her. She doesn't stand out as much as some of the others, but she's
got good presence. She just doesn't seem to stand out above the crowd of
other good singers. This performance was no exception.

   2. Josh Logan
"Come As You Are" by Nirvana

I hated this. Hated it. Turning "Come As You Are" into a ballad should be
   a criminal offense.

   3. Storm Large
"Just What I Needed" by The Cars

I still love her name. She rocks too. She did fine with this.

   4. Lukas Rossi
"Let's Spend the Night Together" by the Rolling Stones

I've been on the fence about this guy, but this tipped the scales...I hate
him. He's got enourmous stage presence but he's a horrible singer. And not
in a "heavy metal" fashion -- he just sucks. He's truly awful at it and
needs to get a voice coach. Axl Rose, James Hetfield and Vince Neil are all
capable singers, even if they are rockers. Lukas isn't.

   5. Jill Gioia
"All Right Now" by Free (not Creed)

She was good this week. That whole (no pun intended) Courtney Love thing
was a disaster but she seems to have accepted it and dealt with it.

   6. Ryan Star
"Fortunate Son" by Creedance Clearwater Revival

Despised it. He needs to go soon.

   7. Phil Ritchie
   "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane

Hated it beyond belief. Newsted was cool, but this guy is wooden and
completely unbelieveable on the stage. He does absolutely nothing for me,
and this performance didn't change my opinion of him.

   8. Dana Andrews
"It's My Life" by Bon Jovi

She has an amazing voice but she's completely out of her element with these
guys. She needs to learn to play the guitar (if she can't) and audition for
Nashville Star -- she'd be huge in the Music Row scene. But she needs to
stop trying to fit in with these guys, she just doesn't.

   9. Toby Rand
   "Runway Train" by Soul Asylum

I think I like this guy, but I hate this song. He did the best he could
with it, but it's a boring, preachy annoying song. Not much you can do to
   make it better.

   10. Magni
   "Plush" by Stone Temple Pilots

Magni gets better every week, this was his best performance yet. I'm
   starting to dig him.

   11. Zayra Alvarez
   "Everybody Hurts" by REM

She didn't do a bad job on this song, but she's still (like Dana) completely
out of her element here. And yeah, the Bjorkishness was insufferable. She
   needs to go home.

   12. Jenny Galt
   "Drive" by Incubus

I'm tired of her. She tries hard, she has a good voice, but she's utterly
   bland. Bland in the extreme.

   13. Dilana
   "Zombie" by the Cranberries

She's great and easily my favorite on the competition, even though I didn't
like her rendition of "Ring of Fire" last week. She's showing that she can
sing damn near anything AND has stage presence, unlike a certain grunting
fool that thinks he's god's gift to music. This performance was awesome.

Who should go this week: Josh (but he's also safe)
Who will go this week: Dana, they've given her enough chances to match their
   style
