   The people in Iowa want and need very different things from the   
   government than the people in New York. However, they will always be in   
   the minority and the New Yorker's needs will always win out if each vote   
   counts equally.   
      
   If each vote were counted equally, the sheer numbers of large states   
   would always overwhelm the small states, thus their issues would never   
   be addressed.   
      
   The electoral college prevents this from happening. Even though North   
   Dakota will never be in the majority, the EC ensures that it will at   
   least mean something.
