|    My SMiLE thoughts    |

From: RustWillNeverSleep@webtv.net              Not to beat a dead horse, but here are my thoughts on the new SMiLE.       First of all, I know that they couldn't use the vocal tracks of the       original sessions, because Mike Love wouldn't have probably ever have       allowed it, but I wish they would've used the same backing tracks,       because I think a lot of the instrumental sections are really lacking.       For instance, even though I'm glad they incorporated the Cantina       section, am I the only one who feels the original version of "Heroes and       Villains" had more energy? Also, some of the new lyrics are kind of       iffy, like the lyrics to "Barnyard" for instance. Where is that cool       fuzz bass outro to "Cabinesscence?" There are some cool moments,       though. I like the verses to "Roll Plymouth Rock," and I like all the       children's songs. "In Blue Hawaii" and "On A Holiday" are also cool       additions. Sure, Brian's voice isn't even in the same ballpark as it       used to be, but my main complaint is in the music. Sure, it's the same       idea, but the execution isn't as strong as it was before. Not to nit       pick, but I am a huge Beach Boys fan, and before I can accept this as       the greatest album of all time, I need to acknowledge its flaws as well.              Also, off topic, what does everyone think of Gettin' In Over My Head?       It's sub-par in my opinion, just like every other non SMiLE Brian Wilson       solo album.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
