I agree with this 100%. Cabinessence is the only song where I really
miss the original vocals. Between Carl's lead and Brian's original
pristine falsetto on the doing doing doing part, the new one just
doesn't quite do it for me like the old one did.

As for Fire, I'm glad they left the crackling sounds out. But the cello
work in the 60s version sounds much more like real flames to me, right
in my face almost, as compared to the new version.

Having said all that, lots of this stuff is like the various 60s
versions of Good Vibrations...I like all of them, though they're
different. I still think that version with Carl sounding like a wildman
has missed its market, and wish someone could maybe license that for a
soundtrack, advertisement, or some other thing where it would get some
   more exposure.

   I believe it's Jonah Wilson, Carl's eldest (?)

   MDH will know this.

I can't get over all the songs on the radio these days with sirens in
them. I remember back in the day, you couldn't play that stuff on the
radio, else people would think they were being pulled over or needed to
get out of the way of a fire truck or ambulance.

Let's also not forget (though this is a bit off topic) that songs like
"The Little Girl I Once Knew" got less airplay because of the pauses.
That one and "Heroes & Villains" I've both heard interrupted by a DJ
   thinking he'd missed his cue.
