   do lyrics have to make sense all the time, or just capture a theme?   
      
   is all poetry just laid out there in black and white, or should some of the   
   lines be rather crypric in flavor?   
      
   i don't have the answers. i don't think Mike Love has either. but we all   
   have opinions   
      
   as for Mike Love's observations about Smile, he was probably not too   
   satisfied with the success of Pet Sounds, and wanted to fall back on the old   
   sounds/productions. (as he does today).   but you would have thought that   
   the worldly success of Good Vibrations, would have made him a convert to the   
   new generation musical sounds.   
      
   SMiLe was not an album where the new vision could be compromised.   
      
   i think that the group's non support of the project as a whole was probably   
   one of the biggest flubs in modern pop music.  this group needed a dose of   
   hip and it would have put them on top of the progressive musical mountain.   
      
   my opinion for what it's worth. probably not much :-)
