From: no@thanks.com              Last night, listening to Smile for the umpteenth time - I can't stop,       it's soooooo good - it suddenly dawned on me that one of the reasons it       sounds so innovative is that Brian totally omits the use of drums in       many parts of the album. And in many cases when he does use them,       they're a momentary accent to what's going on musically, rather than the       typical, constant, emphasis-on-the-third-beat backdrop that drives so       much typical rock/pop music.              To me it's a testament to how melodic and creative the music is, that       it's riveting all on its own, without the need to add the forced       excitement of a constant drum track. An innovative sound for those of       us who are new to Smile today, and no doubt a pretty gutsy move for a       popular songwriter to make back in the sixties!              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
