Uh, what's wrong with the lead vocal on H&V? Wonderful is excellent, and
Surf's Up - while having some vocal support from the band (or double
tracked) is perfectly fine. (Surf's Up's melody is vocally challenging for
*any* singer!) Good Vibrations is super.

Man, people demand this album for years, they finally get it and all of the
sudden it's 'Not as good' or 'the original was better' crap-o-la.

The alternative would have been to hand the entire project over to the
Wondermints and let Darian and the crew finish it. Then, everyone would be
bitching: "Why isn't Brian on the album? He's still alive! What a rip-off".

Just be happy for what you have. Or, at very least, re-edit whatever
original tapes still exist and make yourself a version of Smile that sounds
good to *you*. But, to say Brian's vocal participation is not valid is
preposterous. Sorry for the rant, but I strongly disagree that Wilson's
vocals mar the recording. They give it authenticity, vitality and since he
composed the damn thing, it gives the album VALIDITY!

   Think about it.
