XPost: rec.music.artists.beach-boys       From: dan.gwendajay@worldnet.att.net              I think 85 was a relatively nice time for the boys...I mean, there were       still conflicts over landy, but the boys, and yes, even Mike, did seem to be       thankful that Brian was alive, and miraculously, out in front of people. In       addition, 84 and 85 were about as creative for the boys as any years had       been since the decade began (and maybe since). they had started working on       the new album in 1984, and brian was right in there with the rest of them,       writing and laying down tracks. I think that there was generally good blood       between them all...as much as possible, anyway, considering how much control       Landy had over him.So, as you noticed from Mike's demeanor in that concert,       there was probably a feeling of camaraderie that came from writing,       recording rehearsing, and performing together...they probably felt like an       active band again, and after Denny's death just a couple years previous,       they probably felt the need to be positive.              Unlike many fans, I really like the album that resulted. It was roundly       criticized for it's "digital" quality (it was the first digitally recorded       album by the band, and as such, it was ahead of it's time) many thought that       it made the recording to cold...but in retrospect, after digital recording       has become commonplace and a fact of life, I don't find it's "digital"       nature distracting at all, and I see this as just another time that the       beach boys embraced new studio technology before others got around to it.              Sorry for that, a bit off topic, but it does relate to the context of the       question.              Happy Holidays              --              Dan Addington                     "MFalc1" |
