I know exactly what you mean. It happens everytime with hip insiders have
their own cool great little thing. Their own little cosa nostra. Like the
old SMiLE tapes were for us.

For instance, I also love asian action movies, ya know, Jackie Chan, Jet Li,
etc. For years the guys over in alt.asian-movies were belly aching how
Hollywood never gave these guys opportunities in the USA, etc, and keep
putting out the same crap all the time.

So after many years, Hollywood finally did come around and put these guys in
big budget flicks. And guess what? The belly aching ratcheted up a few
notches in alt.asian-movies. "Oh, it sucks." etc. I think its a universal
   truism.

As for "SMiLE"... I really loved the old tapes. They had some kind of
eerieness to them, and listening to them was almost a voyeuresque experience
looking into someone's troubled mind. They were beautiful, but kind of
   disturbing as well.

But after listening to the official release, I finally see where the SMILE
:) part was supposed to come in. I feel the joy that was supposed to be in
the music but isn't on those old tapes.

Its my humble Beach Boy fan opinion that Brian *couldn't* complete SMiLE in
1967, because it wasn't in him to bring the SMiLE :) part out of the music.
Now he can, and it is a masterpiece.

Now I see two completely different projects, both of which I love. BB King
and Jessica Simpson can both sing the same song, but its not gonna be the
same song. To me, the two SMiLEs have that disparity.
