   I really think that 38 years ago is too long to take what's there and   
   make any kind of hit out of it.  Remember, that was part of the purpose.   
   "Smile" is working because of the common sense requiring today's   
   technology and some vocal help from the Wondermints.  You can be sure,   
   though, that Brian took these pieces of the puzzle (many he himself   
   forgot) and at the very least had final approval, if not total   
   reconstruction.   The new version is very very satisfying (and I AM a   
   bootleg, owning three, which I think is at least adequate).   
      
   What is sad is that there were some tapes of brilliance that were thrown   
   away or lost that were intended to be used, and Brian would in no way   
   remember making.   An original completion should not happen; it is just   
   not meant to be.  These segments are fossilized in history, where they   
   must remain.  What has happened with this new completion is a major   
   major miracle.
