From: Pintar@webtv.net              Even though it's a Van Dyke album by composition, it's a major       indication of how "Smile" would have sounded if finally released in       1967. To me, "Orange Crate" has a fresher quality because it was       conceived, produced and finished all in the same time frame. "Smile",       of course, has such a huge gap that, even in its finished form, untold       inspiration will always remain missing. "Smile" is more or less a       tribute to a lost album rather than the album itself. Listening to it       reminds of reheating a good pizza. Even with this recent release and       some great great moments, I'll never feel that the album was intended to       be an album of fragments, but rather one with all complete compositions       ala "Orange Crate Art".              "Orange Crate" however has a definite concept and song structure, with       truly complete music.              Elmer Pintar              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
