Speaking of BLACK HOLE GAS ... <-- In reference to YOUR critique of my
   good natured comments...
   Let's see;
   RE: Little Honda's /slurred guitar- I did say that I wasn't a musician
so those who are may know the guitar effect that I was referring to?? I
think it was called "FUZZ TONE"? and was a popular effect in the acid
   rock genre ?
RE: my statement on Brian recording things backwards... I mentioned the
"Horse Shoe "instrument"/effect, (what's that called..?) And, [I think
that I'm joking here]: but another example that came to mind immediately
was the 'track', "Our Favorite Recording Session' on the All Summer Long
LP. (Perhaps that was Chuck in the booth though...lol!) You know the one
I mean: "...we're flying over Carl Wilson ..." +(he) speeds reverses the
tape... I still think you should listen to the session with Chuck, Brian
and Van Dyke and Brian's non use of an Oscillator... But let me think
about it and I'll come up with some other examples... (I guess you
haven't been a Beach Boy fan for very long, huh Mr...? I'm assuming You
   ARE A Fan?)
B.T.Way, Who ever recorded an (albeit, pseudo)-Live PARTY before Brian
Wilson? Or the Cassius Love vs Sonny Wilson (Eddie Haskell vs Wally
Cleaver) stuff ... Not necessarily music but recording 'style'.
Redefining what can legitimately go on an album for shall we say,
'color'. In those days those tracks were referred to by writers, et.al.,
as "filler" !! They may have been in the strictest sense but I also
think that having those "silly" sessions as part of the albums were as
much about what made the Beach Boys part of Americana as the music!!
Re: Sound effects WITH (sorry, typo-not for) MELODY, I was really
referring to songs like Barnyard with the guys doing the animal noises,
or um, the actual train at the end of Caroline No =(its coda?) ... as
integral parts of the songs and the albums -in my opinion.
Another of Brian's Innovations during and pre-Smile: Listen to the
opening 6 notes of "Wendy", and the middle of "She's Not The Little Girl
I once Knew" : wasn't it unheard of to have what was called "dead air"
in rock music? (It was done in classical music, of course). I think it
had something to do with Top 40 radio then and the rapid delivery of the
DJs - the radio stations didn't want to lose listeners if the sound just
.. stopped ... even momentarily? The Smile Example would be Heroes and
Villains which ... pauses ... too.
I think you'd really like Brian's music on a number of levels Mr.
Sil(L)y. Especially the more subtle nuances = being as concerned with
the attempt to find (negative) minutiae within other fans (comments) as
you appear to be. On the journey- Brian's HUMILITY might CHILL you out
   .. immeasurably!
Love + Mercy! = Please leave my Tighty Whitys outta this!
