While I certainly agree with almost everything you said, a lot more people
would be put off with his personality once they start reading about Mr.
Love. The endless marriages, lawsuits and loudmouth remarks are the things
that really get under my skin. His stage act doesn't really bother me - I
don't like it - but it doesn't come across so much as 'gay' as it just looks
so hopelessly foolish at times. When Mike is singing something complicated,
he usually doesn't resort to the hand gestures, etc.

Mike Love - as a person - doesn't have a lot of fans around here, but he's a
great singer in the BB ensemble and I doubt even his most ardent dissenters
wouldn't begrudge him that. Unfortunately, he's 'part of the gig' so to
speak. One can't like the BB and dislike his singing as he's an integral
part of the so-called "blend". Even his nasal 'twang' when singing lead is
distinctive. Maybe not to everyone's taste, but it's a trademark so we have
   to live with it.

Believe me, I'm no ML fan either - but I'm a hardcore BB fan and always will
be. I just listen to the records (CD's) and enjoy the videos for what they
are and try not to think about the non-musical aspects if I can. Besides,
what does it matter what he does if he gives a good vocal performance?

But, your point about alienating would-be fans is well taken. I'd like to
believe people have some brain power and look past the surface and see the
pure gold that lies within. There was a time, not long ago either, when a
fan barely knew what a performer even looked like unless they attended a
concert or saw them on Ed Sullivan, Shindig, etc. If ya' don't dig ML - just
ignore him or close your eyes and let your ears do the driving.
