        MIT has had full professors without doctorates.  Do you consider   
   it not to be a respectable college?   
        Also many of the California State Universities do not require a   
   doctorate to be hired for the faculty and promoted--schools and   
   departments that do not give doctorates have no justification for   
   requiring the faculty to have them.
