   I think Mike was unhappy with Smile, but would have sung all his parts   
   if Brian had finished them.  Recall that he hated the "crow flies" line   
   you allude to above, but sang it perfectly.   
      
   I think that the "snippet" method of composition that Brian adopted   
   with "Good Vibrations" doomed the project.  He was barely able to   
   bring GV in for a landing after working on it for months, and doing   
   a whole album that way, with all that was going on in his life, and   
   his increasing problems doomed the project.  Mike's hostility was   
   not the deciding factor, and, as you point out, he was willing to   
   to participate in the Smiley Smile sessions to salvage what Brian   
   was willing to complete.
