|    Bruce Brown Meets the Beach Boys    |

From: mcstevex1350@verizon.net              I just got the latest issue of The Surfer's Journal. In it,       there's an article by Bruce Brown where he goes through many of       his old photos that were stashed in his attic gathering dust, so to       speak. Each photo is accompanied by an anecdote or description.       This is one of those anecdotes, paraphrased and condensed by me.              ------------------------------------------       Bruce sez:              A guy named Harry Klusmeyer used to book my films. He was an       agent who also booked bands. For a booking at the Roxy Theater       in Pacific Beach, he asked if we'd let a new band play. At the time,       we were showing my film Barefoot Adventure (ca.1960). The band       was an unknown, and they were playing for free just to get exposure.       By our standards they were real dorks; they weren't surfers and I       don't think the audience took real kindly to them. Anyway, I thought,       wow, those poor guys are never going to make it.        Years later, I picked up a hitchiker in Dana Point and he says, "You       don't remember me, do you?" I said no. He said, "I'm the drummer       for the Beach Boys". By then they were famous and I said, "Why are       you hitch-hiking?". He said he just liked to get out and get in touch with       the real world. I stopped at my street, and he just got out and stuck       out his thumb.       -------------------------------------------              So, this is what I can only assume to be a publicity photo shot by       Bruce Brown, some time around 1961. All photos in the article are       credited to Brown, and there's no other credit on this one.              http://i16.tinypic.com/8g8odhy.jpg                     Steve Mc              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
