I interpreted his remark to be more a reference to The Beach Boys than
to the Wrecking Crew; a reference to the live band more than the studio
   one.

Also, it seems to me that Brian is deeper into hype now than ever
before. Calling Pet Sounds a "7" and SmiLE a "10", for example. I
disagree with Brian at my own peril, but come on.....not to mention the
fact that, only a few years ago, he thought SmiLE was "junk".

If you or i worked on something for a half of a year and then showed it
to our family, and they said...."it's sorta cool and all, but I don't
think you ought to show it to anyone else", I think we'd be pretty
disappointed. Imagine what it did to a guy whose whole being was
wrapped up in his artistic output.

It seems almost too simple a solution, but it may be that getting this
album out, and finally letting go of his anger at Mike and perhaps
others, really seems to be doing Brian more good than all the
prescriptions and wives you could imagine.

I suspect that most who go through therapy over childhood issues begin
at some point to do a lot of blaming, a lot of confronting. It isn't
pretty, but it may be a necessary part of the process. Then at some
point if they're really lucky, they get apologies, and things get
better. Sometimes there's even a reconciliation or a return to relative
   normalcy.

Other times they just get it out of their system, and go on by
themselves, happier than ever. Still sad that things had to go they way
they did, but thankful that they were able to come to terms with what
had happened to them when they couldn't defend themselves.
