   The contents of this interview (and possibly some of what we'll see   
   tonight on Showtime on the David Leaf film) is going to shock some. I   
   know I've already heard some things that are news to me. For example:   
      
   According to David Leaf (quoting David Anderle and, I believe,  Danny   
   Hutton) and Van Dyke Parks, SmiLE wasn't planned as a Beach Boys album.   
      
      
   .......(!)   
      
   So the question may not be whether Mike didn't consider it appropriate   
   for the Beach Boys as much as it was whether he wanted Brian working   
   with someone other than the group, or wanted brian's energies directed   
   toward anything other than the group's continued commercial success.   
      
   This goes along with the previous report (in Danny Hutton's book) that   
   Mike and Carl worked hard to prevent Brian from writing/recording   
   for/with Redwood.
