|    Neil's Favorite Car    |

From: joemahoney1950@gmail.com              Foke's it's well known, both among fans of Rush, journalists who cover them,       and personal friends of Neil Peart, that this man loves his cars.              Us fans know it 'cause the theme of cars is in so many of Neil's songs. "Red       "Barchetta" is about Neil's surreptitious trips to visit his die-hard       "White-haired uncle" who is keen on maintaining vestiges of the past,       preserving a sacred-yet-forbidden        old car, and allowing Neil to go in adventures in it, defying the prevailing       standards of the day.              Fans also know that Neil loves the symbolism embodied in the car from comments       he has made, about how it symbolizes freedom and sexuality.              Journalists know Neil loves cars because -- e.g., in that Rolling Stone cover       story -- he gives them rides in his cars and shows them his impressive       collection.               Friends of Neil know about this car obsession because -- well, for the reasons       stated above, but also the people who sell their imported sports cars to Neil       sometimes become his friends over the transaction.               But let's return back to "Red Barchetta." Who, exactly is this portly,       conservative, white-haired "uncle" who is so interlinked with the CAR in       Neil's mind?              My friends, this man is none other than legendary Boston talk-show host HOWIE       CARR. He meets all the criteria: portly, right-wing, and white-haired; and of       course the man's name is what truly gives it all away.              The hero of "Red Barchetta," the preserver of better and vanished ways in the       face of modern liberalism, is HOW CARR -- an enormous influence on Neil's       philosophy as well as a close personal friend.               Nuff said              Joe "spiritual not religious" M.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
