   Hard to be much more "true *nix" than BSD... :)   
   That said... It may actually be the case in more recent incarnations of   
   the OS - Under 10.0 and 10.1, it was a known issue, and I think 10.2   
   also had some difficulties with it. I'm *PRETTY* sure I remember there   
   being some chatter around the time 10.3 released, announcing "It's   
   cured". Personally, I made the jump direct from OS 9 to 10.3.6,   
   bypassing the various "early adopter" issues. Also, being one of those   
   "turn it on and leave it on unless you're swapping hardware" types, I   
   wouldn't have gotten hit by it anyway.
