My car finally blew up several months ago, and I haven't gotten around
to bothering with getting another one. Unless things change, I probably
won't - Everything I need is within walking distance currently - My
"commute" to work in the morning clocks in at under 100 steps according
to the pedometer gidget on my iPod, and that includes the walk to the
stairs at the other end of the house. If I had a closer door, it would
   be under 50.

   Eh... perhaps indirectly - Mine's second-hand.

At least twice that I can remember, maybe more that happened but didn't
"register" in my memory since it's such an automatic thing. But we're on
a well/septic tank, so other than the (just barely measurable amongst
the draw for the fridge, the lights, the fan in the window, etc) juice
to run the pump, I count it as a freebie.

   >

Dunno. And honestly, the number that signifies my level of concern
couldn't be any lower if I were to work at trying to reduce it.

   Overall, we basically agree here.

   > Is somebody going to take that picture from my
   > wedding and make a jillion dollars on it? Cool. Wish I'd thought of it.

This is the point where we go our separate ways, and in a big ol'
   screaming hurry.

So you're happy with getting nothing for your "stuff" (insert whatever
definition of "stuff" might apply) while somebody else claims it as
theirs, and proceeds to make a fortune with it? Come on, dude, I know
you're not *THAT* far gone down "hippy lane". Just as I'm sure you know
that I'm nowhere near being the complete "So what's in it for me?"
mercenary prick that I'm quite aware my feelings on the topic make me
   sound like.

The part that chaps my ass worst is the whole "You posted it, so now
it's ours, and if we can figure out a way to make a buck off it, fuck
you, we're gonna, and we won't give you so much as a "thanks" out of the
deal, and if you try to do the same, we're gonna call you a thief and
drag you to court for stealing our stuff" attitude (and worse, making
your acceptance of such terms mandatory)

Yeah, I know - there's an option: "Don't like our policies? Then don't
use our service." Which is *EXACTLY* what my choice is in this case. I'd
rather not use the service (which, so far as I'm concerned, isn't much
of a "service", but that's a whole other rant) at all than use it under
the conditions being imposed. To me and my standards, the "price" being
charged is *FAR* too high for the value I feel I'd get in exchange. And
despite the fact that I know full well that I'm pissing upstream, I'm
going to say so when I think the situation warrants it. If I say it to
enough people, maybe, just maybe, they'll think it's a movement. And
that's just what it is - The Brude's anti-facebook massacree, and all
you gotta do to join is not use Facebook, and sing along when it comes
around again on the git-ar! (We won't even require four-part harmony,
   just "with feeling"...)
