From: here@tww.con              I still love it. The whacky title song - that deadpan choir on "Christmas       without the chintzy stuff" - and the alitteration run amok (so rich is his       charisma ...) that's musical comedy of the highest order.              H Gang: great tune, although the point of the lyric escapes me - it might       be a ludicrously boring story, but so what? But as long as I manage to       ignore that - beautiful music.              What I Do: Nice one. Sure. That Fender Rhodes. The vocal.              Brite Nightgown: That hot Princey vocal mix of falsetto and straight voice.       The guitar work. Krantz' especially.              Pagoda: Beautiful. It has grown on me, too. The muted trumpet too. And       Krantz again: a witty Paganini of understatement.              Security Joan: Love in the Age of Counterterrorism. Just the fact that he       writes a song about that ... it's like taking a vibraphone on the road with       Steely Dan in 94. Who else could do that? That roomy effect on the cymbals       is starting to annoy me a bit, though. What is that? Delay, reverb or       whatever. Why? Search me now ...              Mona: Love it. Grim and funny stuff.              Mary: Contains my favorite couplet on the record - how can anyone come up       with "So if you ever see an automaton / In a midprice luxury car"? Let alone       sing it - and get away with it!              Morph the Reprise - well, kind of a concept thing. I usually skip it. Nice       little surprise when I forget.              Rhymes. Cool. Weird. Love the vocal. Love the guitar solo.              It's still a great album in my opinion. I remember Don and Walt saying in an       interview that if they didn't keel over laughing (more or less) when they       played back a Dan song, it was not a hundred percent successful tune. I       found that a useful key in listening to MTC - it's not to be taken too       seriously.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
