   I used to have an old tube 1/4" reel to reel that   
   sounded like that when I used it for an amp.   
   (for recording only) It wasnt very loud.   
      
   I think the brand was webcor.   
      
   I suppose you could get a similar sound with a   
   "Big Muff". I doubt most folks would know the   
   difference at a club/party.
