|    Steely Dan at Jazz Fest    |

From: thomas635@Acomcast.net              Hello, one and all..              First time poster to this group. I saw Steely Dan last Sunday at Jazz Fest       in New Orleans. My first time seeing them. Or going to Jazz Fest. Both       Saturday the 5th & Sunday the 6th. Saw some of the acts the preceding       Saturday, ate the food, drank the wine, etc.              Sunday my friend and I left the hotel in time to arrive at the fairgrounds       just as they opened at 11:00 AM. Great. We went, but did not stay, at the       Acura stage where they were to play at 3:35 to 5:00 PM. Walked around some,       enjoyed the atmosphere, the amazing art, great food, etc. Went back to the       venue. Frankie Ford was performing. He was horrid. He kept telling awful       jokes ..."My ex wife. May she rest in peace. Any second now..." Followed by       a rimshot from his drummer. When he sat at the piano and played and sang, he       and his group were fine.              He was followed by Allen Toussaint. What a gentleman. Great band, show,       personality, performance, etc. My friend and I were hundreds of yards from       the stage, but near a jumbotron type screen. A rain the previous Friday had       left the area aromatic, and a smelly and nasty pit in front of us kept       people from blocking our immediate view. Would have loved to been in the       standing room area at the stage, though.              I was scared a lot of folks might leave after Mr. Toussaint left the stage.       A few did. But apparently many more showed up. I was very pleased.              The group opened promptly at about 3:30 or so. Did not recognize the song.       My friend said it was the theme to The Price is Right. I can honestly say I       have never, ever watched that show, but as sbaird has posted that's what       they were playing, I guess it was.              The set list...              Two Against Nature       Bad Sneakers       Time Out of Mind       Janie Runaway       Hey Nineteen       Monkey in Your Soul (Walter vocals)       Peg       Green Earrings       Dirty Work (Carolyn & Cindy vocals)       Josie       Do it Again       Kid Charlemagne              They left the stage, and came back to encore with Bodhisattva. Would have       loved to hear My Old School, but by then it was 5:00 almost exactly and they       had to leave to maintain the schedule. My friend, who has attended Jazz Fest       many times said they were the only act he ever saw encore.              I got to see them, so I am quite happy. Despite mud, heat, aroma, crowds,       high priced beverages, and the occasional topless middle aged male       attempting to dance, it was wonderful.              Joe              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
