   Got your cause and effect muddled. William Gibson didn't inspire   
   Steely Dan -- it's the other way around. He's dropped odd little   
   references into a bunch of his books: the Deacon Blues in _Mona Lisa   
   Overdrive_ and _Count Zero_, the Gentleman Loser in _Neuromancer_ and   
   _Johnny Mnemonic_, the Western World and Klaus & the Rooster in   
   _Idoru_, the phrase 'Where did you get those shoes?' in _Virtual   
   Light_, etc.
