Is it Bernard Purdie?       >       > Thanks!              Brian Sweet reports in "Reelin' in the years" (as far as I know, the       only book about SD) that the original take was played by Ed Greene (who       also played on "I got the news"). After the take was erased by mistake,       they attempted to re-record it with a different band, but they gave up.       The drummer was Steve Gadd, if I remember well (I don't have the book       with me right now).              The sound file available on the web sounds like an almost complete       version, with a great backing vocals work: only the horn section is       missing.       IMHO, it is unlikely that SD took the re-recording at this stage, if       they weren't satisfied with the rhythm track. I suppose it could be a       rough mix of the lost take: maybe it was made for the horn arranger,       who knows...              Listening to the other "2nd arrangement" soundbite, available here              http://www.angelfire.com/il/babel7/images/Mystery.wav              the drummer sounds like Steve Gadd to my ear... but I won't bet about       it. I'll play both tracks to my drummer, he's very good to identify       drummers by their playing. I'll let you know.              Ciao.              "Sharing the things we know and love with those of my kind..."              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
