   Diane,
If you think Brian Sweet had anything to do with gathering up those
early SD demos you really do know nothing!

First off, Brian Sweet had absolutely nothing to do with gathering up
anything. Those early SD demos ("Catalyst, "Early Years", "Roaring of
the Lamb", etc,) were all available in the early 80's. I picked up my
first copy of those songs on "Steely Dan the Early Years" at a boot-leg
record store in Kansas City, Mo in 1981. I was also a subscriber to
Metal Leg, but only when Pete Fogel ran it. However, I did order all of
the back issues that Sweet did when I first subscribed . Let's see, I
have the whole catalogue right in front of me . Brian Sweet founded
Metal Leg in 1987. He ran it until 1989 and then Pete Fogel took it
over. Pete ran it from 1989 until 1995. So Sweet had it for two years,
and Fogel had it for eight years. So Diane, I'm not sure where you're
getting your information from. Yes, I do give credit to Sweet as the
"founder". But does that mean he can write a good factual book on the
band? Hoops McKay founded the Blue Book. Does that mean Hoop's can write
a book on Steeky Dan as well?

When I first read Sweet's book I realized that he basically just coped
and pasted all of the pages from Metal Leg onto the pages of his book. I
wouldn't call that very good research. What can I say. I just think that
his book is filled with speculation and guess work. I didn't like it.
