   He WAS a member of the band during the '74 tour. Then he left to play   
   with the Doobs. Don and Walt felt he would be wasting his "talent" by   
   sticking with the Dan. Also, keep in mind that when he did all those   
   backup vocals for the Dan, he was also working full time as Doober.   
      
   Anyway, after '74 there wasn't a real Steely Dan band to be in. So MM   
   was in the last incarnation of the original Steely Dan band. That's   
   pretty impressive, dig.
