You know, I originally blamed Keith Carlock too, but after really
studying all his stuff I've realized that it can't be his fault.
Someone has to be telling him to dumb it down, because he obviously
likes playing complex beats. After seeing his performances at various
clinics it's obvious that he's able to do much more than he does.

Why wouldn't he spice it up more? The only reason is that they have to
be telling him to keep it simple... but it's just too simple for my
taste. As I've said before, I'm not the greatest drummer on earth, but
why don't they just call me in to do these sessions??? I'll play those
flavorless beats, and keep time for em'. Start the click track boys,
not that I need one or anything... ;)

It doesn't matter how much skill the drummer has, they're not going to
let him show it off. I guess complex drum beats just don't fly with
smooth jazz fans, and they surely don't fly on smooth jazz radio. I
must admit that I'm somewhat disturbed by how much these new albums
are dripping with some sort of smooth jazz slime. These dudes claim
that they only listen to a handful of 50 year old Jazz records, but
you'd never guess it from what they've been putting out lately. Errr,
I hate smooth jazz. It's evil I tell you!

But what's wrong with recording in analog??? I was very pleased with
the sound quality of EMG after how awful 2VN sounded. Pro Tools is
great and all, but come on, you heard that snare.
