From: adsl537545GEZWAM@tiscali.nl              I live in Amsterdam.       But checking the internet gives the impression that the Dutch consider it an       American controversy.       As far as I know, until now no Dutch tv, radio or newspaper but one       internet-newspaper payed attention to it as an American issue. It isn't an       item for major Dutch newsgroups either, yet.              Discussions on some small fora revolve around the following:       - typically American to make a fuzz about this,       - it is not meant as racist,       - but it is open to racist interpretation (and IMO thus can fuel existing       racist feelings),       - Sony searches the edges and hopes to get publicity,       - white agressing black is racist but the complementary version did not       cause problems.              Recently an internet poll showed that 10% considers him-/herself a racist.       Maybe the poll isn't very representative, but it reflects the lowering shame       about having racial/cultural preferences and the backing away from earlier       multicultural ideals.              In my opinion the whole campaign flirts with racism for commercial purposes,       which is 'compelling advertising' like J.Humphreys called it. Also totally       off-topic. So please stop the free publicity here and don't reply. Tomorrow       I will cancel this message.              Han              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
