From: davesmail@golddave.com              If you don't think Barrett was a genius then you don't fully       comprehend the work he did early in Floyd's history. The sound he       established influenced the band throughout it's history as late as The       Division Bell and can even be seen in Gilmour's latest solo album.       Ditching him was a very emotional thing for the rest of the band to       do. Many don't remember that Gilmour's start in the band overlapped       with Barret and Gilmour and Barrett were childhood friends. Gilmour       helped Barrett on his attempted solo career going so far as to produce       his album (and actually finish it without Barrett who was too far gone       to complete it himself). It could not have been easy for Gilmour.              Is Barrett a rock genius? No. Would albums like Animals and The Wall       have come about if he had stayed with the band? No. But his sound       was innivative for the time and he deserves credit for that.              On Tue, 11 Jul 2006 23:39:40 -0400, Rollo |
