From: coolaidcb13@yahoo.com              I don't care if ya like the smooth jazz or not. I think it takes a       certain kind of person to listen to smooth jazz. It also takes a       certain kind of person to listen to the Eagles :-\ yuck              Smooth Jazz IS a bad thing. There is nothing GOOD about smooth jazz.       Smooth Jazz isn't even jazzy, so why have 'jazz' in the title at all?              I saw Larry Carlton on Studio Jamz with Joey DeFrancesco... it was       decent, but I think Sleepwalk was probably the last Larry Carlton       album that I could stomach listening to.              The funny thing is, everyone has their own definition of smooth jazz.       I hear a lot of cats referring to the some of the popular Crossover       Jazz of the 80's as Smooth Jazz. I was there (barely), I remember, and       no that's not smooth jazz. Just to remind everyone who has       forgotten... The term "smooth jazz" wasn't invented until the early to       mid 90's. Before that, all contemporary jazz stations simply referred       to their format as Jazz. Their playlists tended to include a good       mixture of old an new jazz, maybe some fusion, maybe some bop... you       never knew. Jazz stations prided themselves on their extensive and       rare collections of vinyl. Now you turn on your radio and you hear the       same 20 songs by the same 20 hacks, played over and over... with the       same black chick singing "smooooooooth jaaaaaaaazzzzzzz *insert call       letters here*"              I remember standing in the Atlanta greyhound bus terminal one cold       rainy morning, being mocked by the loudspeakers. They were playing the       local smooth jazz station, and the sweepers in-between songs were       identical to the sweepers on the local station here. I almost threw       up... but that could have been the smell of the bus station.              Cedric                                   On Fri, 14 Jul 2006 18:32:06 +0200, "Roger Mexico" |
