   It's not a dumb question at all.  Considering that Mike is a   
   hugely successful singer AND songwriter in his own right I   
   think it's pretty cool of him to hang around backstage for   
   most of SD's set, then come out and sing background.  After   
   all, he could be relaxing in his hotel room instead.
