The following lyrics, from the song Dirty Old Town, written
by Ewan MacColl but made famous by The Pogues, always
remind me of that sickle and moon.

I'm gonna make me a big sharp axe

So I equate the axe to the sickle and moon though the
axe in the song is steel, not golden or bronze.

Originally I thought the lyrics to be a bit gruesome
but someone on rec.music.celtic or rec.music.folk
told me the axe is the axe of social change, cutting
down the establishment to replace it with something
better (or words to that effect). So no axe murder
is depicted in the song. Also I think the town in
   question is Manchester.
