XPost: alt.astrology, alt.astrology.metapsych, alt.paranormal       XPost: alt.psychology       From: Ye@h.Right              It would be very easy to prove that psychology does not meet the criteria of       a science. It is also neccesary to accept most psychological findings on       "faith", since most psychological findings cannot be proven.              Religion also requires "faith" in an unseen God.              So, it our secular society, psychology has supplanted the church as the       primary organ of shamanism.              My question is very straightforward - since psychology is therefore a type       of religion, why is there no separation of church and state when it comes to       psychology ?              Why is it that we have these pseudoscientific shaman running around in our       schools, prisons, etc ? Remembering that everything a psychologist says must       be taken on "faith", exactly as if this advice were coming from a priest !              Psychologists speak of id and ego, subconscious and mental illness, and all       manner of things, yet it cannot be proved that they exist at all. No       different than talking about God. These things must be accepted on -FAITH-.       This is why psychology IS a FAITH, and again the question remains, what       happened to the separation of church and state ?              ---------------------------              Psychologists worship the God of "greater social good". It is an abstract       God, which is assumed to exist, because it just makes sense that there is a       greater good out there somewhere which we should all strive to achieve. They       cannot prove that this "greater good" exists, but if you asked the man on       the street it would be nearly unanimous that people believe that there       exists a "greater good". This is the God of psychology.              There are many other parallels to religion. For example, psychotropic       medications. The dispensing of psychotropic medications has supplanted the       Eucharist, and many people are expected to consume their medications       regardless of what good or harm these pills may cause, because taking the       magic pills is a sacrament, an act of homage to the "God of greater good" -       and the taking of the sacrament is an affirmation of reverence to this God.       The God of psychology.              There is a tremendous amount of dogma and superstition, mysticism, and       unprovable things which must be accepted on =>FAITH<= . This is because       nothing regarding the mind can be measured. You cannot have a science       without measurements. Can anyone measure love, or hate, or beauty ? No, this       will always be impossible. Yet we are expected to have =>FAITH<= that the       psychologist |
