Obviously neither of you guys has ever been pregnant. Let me tell you, it
is a combination of messed up hormones, morning sickness, acid indigestion,
a 10-pound ball jumping up and down on one's bladder, having a belly as big
as a house, and sleeping poorly because one can never find a comfortable
position. I'd say the miracle of birth is partly that a woman comes through
it intact, let alone that her "personality recovers." Impeding this, of
course, are the late nights with a crying baby, frequent feedings, sore
breasts, etc. There is nothing mystical about being pregnant. It was the
ancient creators of the "earth mother" who had a hang-up on motherhood, not
   the other way around.
