   The best stuff was most likely written on paper and animal skins or   
   whatever else they could think of.  Clay tablets have a longer shelf   
   life though, especially when they are baked which fortunately   
   happened quite often because armies had this fetish for setting   
   everything on fire back then.  We have advanced quite a bit since   
   then; now we blow everything to bits.
