   In the case of Noah & flood, the story is at least twice removed from   
   its source.   
      
   It entered Canaan via Ugarit, where it is found recorded in   
   proto-Semitic texts centuries before any "Babylonian" conquest   
   of the region. From there it traveled south where it was finally   
   incorporated into the myths of a people without a Canaanite identity.
