   Can someone tell me about the strange custom of covering the eyes of the   
   dead with gold coins?   
      
   Where does this custom come from and why do they do this?   
      
   I know that in Greek mythology, they buried the dead by placing coin in   
   their mouths so they can have ferry passages across the Styx, by the   
   ferryman Charon.   
      
   If you can provide sources to this custom in historical/mythological   
   literatures, then please supply sources.
