Mythical/magical creatures are an added bonus.              You might try something by Tim Powers: _The Drawing of the Dark_ is       set during the Turkish siege of Vienna and involves several mediaeval       legends; _The Anubis Gates_ (Coleridge's London, time travel, ancient       Egyptian magicians) is probably my favourite of his, although _Last       Call_ (Las Vegas, gambling for souls, the Fisher King) rivals it; any       are worth reading IMO. They are all quite different in setting, but       they all weave well-researched history, biography, myth, and folklore       together with products of the author's very creative, quirky imagination.              --       Odysseus              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
