   Once upon a time in alt.atheism,  dear sweet Bible Bob   
   (biblebob@saintly.com) made the light shine upon us with this:

   Genesis illustrates man's knowledge of his own surroundings at the time   
   of the writing.  The writer had no clue that plants (created on the   
   second day) need sunlight (created on the third day) to set   
   photosynthesis in motion.  Light was created on the first day, so man had   
   no idea it was the sun that caused daylight.  And without the sun and the   
   earth's rotation, there could be no days - yet somehow there were several   
   before it was even "created".   
      
   Is this "former" earth you talk of the one that has supported life for a   
   few billion years?  Why does Genesis make no mention of the dinosaurs,   
   which existed many millions of years before this "God" guy showed up?   
      
   Genesis isn't even a good bedtime story.
