XPost: talk.religion.christian.jehovah-witness, alt.bilble, alt.atheism       XPost: free.christians       From: address@withheld.com              Once upon a time in alt.atheism, dear sweet Bible Bob       (biblebob@saintly.com) made the light shine upon us with this:              > Blak,       >       > That's not what Genesis says. We do not know that "In the beginning"       > reached back "billions" (maybe only 999 million and a half years; or       > maybe less) of years because a number is not given. There was a       > former earth and something existed on the former earth as evidenced by       > the plant life on day three that "the earth brought forth".              Genesis illustrates man's knowledge of his own surroundings at the time       of the writing. The writer had no clue that plants (created on the       second day) need sunlight (created on the third day) to set       photosynthesis in motion. Light was created on the first day, so man had       no idea it was the sun that caused daylight. And without the sun and the       earth's rotation, there could be no days - yet somehow there were several       before it was even "created".              Is this "former" earth you talk of the one that has supported life for a       few billion years? Why does Genesis make no mention of the dinosaurs,       which existed many millions of years before this "God" guy showed up?              Genesis isn't even a good bedtime story.              --       Uncle Vic       aa Atheist #2011       Supervisor, EAC Department of little adhesive-backed "L" shaped       chrome-plastic doo-dads to add feet to Jesus fish department              The laws that require me to NOT kill people I don't like REALLY bug       me, or there would be many less of YOUR kind.        -John Weatherly              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
