There is a difference between the symbolic eating of the flesh of
God, and the actual eating of the flesh of human beings, although
the esoteric motivation may be similar in both cases.

I'm surprised you defend the practice of cannibalism among the
Maya. Is it because it provides an opportunity to knock the
   Christian religion?

Gibson is an honest guy. He honestly portrayed the successful
conspiracy to murder Jesus by the priests of the Temple, and now
from what I've read, he honestly portrays the barbarism and
brutality of the Maya. Both topics are politically incorrect, so
naturally he received criticism for his honesty.
