c090f4ea       From: wolfbat359a@mindspring.com              In 1890, Wounded Knee was the site of a brutal massacre. More than 150       men, women, and children of the Lakota tribe were brutally slaughtered       by American soldiers. It has become a sacred place to the Lakota       Sioux; it is an important part of their spiritual heritage. But the       site's private owner is now trying to sell it off to the highest       bidder -- one of whom would build a horse slaughterhouse on the site.              The U.S. government transferred Wounded Knee to private ownership in       the late 1800s, where it's remained ever since. Its current owner has       owned the plot since 1968. Now, he's looking to sell it off -- and       he's offered it to the Oglala tribe for the cool price of $3.9       million.              The Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, just a few miles from where Wounded       Knee is located, is one of the poorest places in the country. To ask       them to pay millions of dollars for land they should rightly own is       akin to ransom, and to build a horse slaughterhouse there would be       downright unthinkable.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
